Lloyd Watkins BSc (Hons) Sports Therapist

Lloyd Watkins BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy, specialising in injury treatment, movement and functional anatomy as well as exercise based rehabilitation and soft tissue therapy.

My passion for health and exercise has always flown over into my personal life. I play Rugby for Exmouth RFC 1st team, currently in National 3 South West Premier League .To remain fit and continue my participation in physical activity, I attending the gym regularly often integrating different training disciplines (CrossFit, weightlifting, gymnastics and bodybuilding) to achieve both physical and performance based goals. For me personally, my enjoyment and enthusiasm for exercise and physical activity comes from the stimulating environments, and both the psychological and physical challenge. This regular and avid participation in sports activities sparked the initial interest in the human body and allowed me to expand my hobbies into education and employment.

My own personal sports Injuries further increased my eagerness to understand the human body and its mechanisms of movement. In 2002, I was diagnosed with Perthes Calves disease of the right hip, which has resulted in the incorrect development of the hip joint and an anatomical length imbalance in my legs that require corrective treatment. This injury (and many others) allowed me to develop an interest in Injury Prevention (pre-habilitation) and Injury Rehabilitation; two aspects of Sports Therapy that I remain passionate about. These factors resulted in me completing A-Levels in Human Biology, Psychology and Physical Education and gaining a 2:1 degree in Sports Therapy at the University of St Mark and St John.

During both my degree and the period to follow I have been privileged to have the opportunity to work within a number of professional organisations: Exeter Chiefs; The Remedial Instruction Department of a Royal Marine Institute; Pitch Side Therapist for Royal Marines RFC; and working within the Physiotherapy Department of the Royal Navy.

These experiences significantly developed me as a Sports Therapist. They allowed me to hone my knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and provided me the skills required to prevent, treat, and rehabilitate musculoskeletal injuries.

It is a desire of mine to develop a package in which Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition, and Sports Therapy all holistically interlink to provide a complete health and physical wellness bundle.
