BA (Hons) Sports Science & English Literature / PGCE secondary Physical Education & Level 5 Diploma in Soft Tissue Therapy

In 2002, I graduated from Brunel University and went on to study a PGCE at Exeter University to become a fully qualified Physical Education teacher. Having taught full-time for 16 years and gained a great deal of academic and pastoral experience, I decided to seek a new challenge and enrolled on the Level 5 BTec diploma course in soft tissue therapy during 2017.

I successfully completed my course in April 2018. On reflection, the diploma I have gained has not only provided me with a great wealth of anatomical knowledge and advanced practical massage treatment techniques, but it has also introduced me to a large array of specific rehabilitation exercises and functional movement strategies that I can offer as part of a clinical treatment plan to gain long-term results.

I was delighted to join the formidable therapist team at The Clinic, Exmouth in June 2018. The opportunity to work with a large variety of clients and athletes who require different individual treatment needs is a very exciting prospect. On a personal level I enjoy competing in 10k runs, various cycling sportifs, Seine boat rowing training & competitions, as well as open water swimming and circuit / boot camp classes.

Being someone who is very passionate about exercising and competing in a range of physical challenges, I understand the demand this can often put on our body and I know first-hand how much soft tissue treatment can complement periods of training and recovery. My main aim as a soft tissue practitioner is to help reduce pain, as well as to improve strength, joint stability and range of motion. I endeavour to keep up with the latest research and treatment methods by attending CPD courses whenever possible and work at a range of sporting events to provide athletes and participants with both pre and post-event treatments to enhance performance and musculoskeletal recovery.
